Its experienced head chef, who will oversee on-site banquets, formerly cooked at Rancho Bernardo’s now-shuttered Pearl Restaurant as well as various Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong and Los Angeles. on weekends, the restaurant features daily dim sum cart service as well as a massive menu of Cantonese cuisine, from live seafood to roast meats. Spanning 15,000-square-feet, it’s comprised of a main dining hall and an adjacent event space that can combine to accommodate 750 people. It tastes just as good but is a little more on the expensive side for people used to cheap Chinese food.īring cash for the parking lot, it charges $1 an hour, which isn't too bad for guaranteed parking. The proprietors of the popular Mira Mesa Chinese restaurant Golden Island have completed an upgrade and renovation of the longstanding banquet hall and restaurant at the corner of 54th and University, now renamed Diamond Palace. And pro-tip, if you see a Chinese restaurant that is almost always packed with older Chinese people, chances are you found a great spot. I've visited this place five times and each time it's always packed, especially with Chinese customers. And make sure that you are courteous but not scared to flag a cart or wandering server to get your items, otherwise you won't get the items you want because everyone else is getting the same thing. but for the taste and how filing each item is, I think it's worth it. But xiao long bao is not part of the cart dim sum and is something you have to tell the servers to get you.ĭo watch out, each cart/ item has it's own grade/price point so the totals add up fast if you're not careful. I don't recommend the xiao long bao tho, that one was very dry and I think was either cooked too long or sat too long. You're free to flag any of the dim sum carts and even to order on the regular menu at the same time. Their har gow is fantastic and there's another shrimp dish that's basically shrimp in sweet soy sauce in a succulent rice wrapper (i believe this is cheung fun) that I always get. the shrimp they serve tastes fresh and isn't overpowered by the other ingredients of the dish. They have the best selection of shrimp dimsum and all of. The selection is to die for, and almost everything is done to perfection. They do the cart service dimsum up until 3pm and this restaurant is my go to whenever I have the craving. Overall, it’s the better dim sum spot in San Diego and I go for the dim sum, not the jalapeños (or service). I should not have to speak in Cantonese to get better service and I shouldn’t have to ask the Latino busers to get fresh sliced jalapeños (the Chinese workers would tell me they don’t have it, as I look at the slices on the food item I just got from the cart). The ladies pushing the carts are always very friendly and helpful, it’s the service staff that isn’t always good. Service is quick, not bad, but not great. The selection is vast and the flavor & quality is good - definitely satisfies my dim sum cravings (and those of my guests). Dim Sum is served Monday through Friday, 10am-3pm and weekends, 9am-3pm.
